Geology 102 - Earth, Life, and Time


Geology 102 is an introductory course that focuses on the construction of Earth ecosystems, the interactions between biological and geological systems, and how Earth ecosystems have changed through time.

  • There are no pre-requisites for this course
  • The course satisfies 1/2 of a Science A distribution requirement
  • The course satisfies part of the pre-requisites for the Geology major

Topics include:

  • Construction of a modern Earth ecosystem
  • Limiting factors for life on Earth
  • How to interpret the geologic record
  • How geologic and climate events have affected life on Earth
  • Major extinction and evolutionary events through geologic time
  • Origins of life on Earth
  • Age of the Earth
