Structural Geology and Tectonics

I arrived at UTK this fall and I am excited about initiating a new research program within the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences.  By integrating my specialties, structural geology and metamorphic petrology, with geochronology, thermochronology, and isotopic geochemistry, I test various aspects of the tectonic evolution of orogenic systems in the southwestern US and Asia. My master’s degree (University of New Mexico; 2003) involved constraining the tectonic evolution of Proterozoic rocks exposed in the Black Canyon of the Gunnison River, Colorado. The main objective of my Ph.D. project (Virginia Tech: 2007) was to quantify the kinematic evolution, metamorphism and exhumation of the Greater Himalayan Sequence exposed in the Mt Everest region, Tibet–Nepal. Most recently, my interests have shifted to the trans-Himalayan Ama Drime range. Please explore <my website> to learn more about these projects and don’t hesitate to contact me about any questions. I am currently looking for graduate students, so let me know if you’re interested in getting started on any of these projects.
