DATABASES:

  • Explosive and Impact Crater Database and Size Estimator

  • This link contains a database summarizing over 1500 explosive and impact craters, including both small laboratory experiments and the large explosive terrestrial craters formed by conventional and nuclear explosives. There is also an HTML-based javascript application that allows estimates of of crater size, shape, etc., to be calculated for various input parameters. The javascript application uses scaling laws developed from the database results. The web page is maintained by Keith Holsapple and Kevin Housen.

  • Databases at LPI

  • LPI has databases, with imagery and descriptions, of all Venusian impact craters and impact craters on Ganymede greater than ~30 km in diameter. The Lunar Orbiter Atlas of the Moon also allows impact craters to be searched for by name or location.

  • Mars Crater Consortium

  • A group dedicated to understanding the Martian cratering record. Site includes links to databases of Martian craters and information about meetings and publications related to Mars cratering.

  • Databases at USGS Flagstaff

  • The Gazetteer of Planetary Nomenclature is comprehensive in its listing of names, locations, and diameters for large impact craters on the solid bodies of the solar system. A database of Venusian impact craters with descriptive information for the craters is also presented.
